See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna

Last night I was so excited to see my favorite fossils on an episode of my favorite anime franchise! Lupin III is about the world’s greatest thief, who usually steals money, jewels, historical/cultural artifacts etc. A mix of James Bond, Indiana Jones, and of course the French thief Arsène Lupin. I think this is the first time he’s tasked with stealing fossils, and they’re the famous Archaeopteryx specimens!

Archaeopteryx is a dinosaur fan favorite as the fossils clearly show traits from both non-bird dinosaurs (teeth, claws, long tail) and birds (feathers etc.)

At the beginning of the episode, some characters discuss the context and importance of the target, as is fairly common with this show. So fun to see fossils where you don’t expect them!

Above: Screenshot from Lupin III Part 6 Season 1 Episode 10

Middle: The real fossils that they’re based on! Archaeopteryx Lithographica London specimen, feather, and Berlin specimen.

First, a team member noticed a tiny protuberance of the end of a pelvis sticking out of a rock. Then the excavation team chipped away at the surrounding rocks until they uncovered a rare and precious find–the virtually complete skeleton of a brand new dinosaur.

This is the world’s most up-to-date reconstruction of a dinosaur.

Anchiornis is a special type of feathered dinosaur because, from fossil imprints, we know that they were covered in feathers and that they had four wings. We recently even discovered what color the animals were, black and white with a red head tuft, similar to a woodpecker.

Now, scientists have carefully analyzed their feathers and found that the feathers had a special, distinct type of Y-shaped feather that made them particularly fluffy. (Drawing by Rebecca Gelertner)

Pterosaur Eden: The World’s Largest Deposit of Flying Reptile Eggs has Been Found and there’s At Least 16 Embryos in There

Scientists aren’t even done uncovering or studying them but so far they’ve counted 215 Hamipterus tianshanensis eggs and that’s more than all the non-crushed eggs ever found in the whole world of all species of pterosaur. (Illustration by Zhao Chuang.)

Pictured is a Quetzalcoatlus, which was discovered in Texas. The newly-discovered species, which was a pterosaur similar in size and presumably other morphology, is known only from neck vertebrae. The new species from Mongolia does not yet have a name.

After laying buried for millions of years, then spending decades in private collections, a prehistoric marine reptile has finally been described for the first time.

My master thesis is an animation on the Cretaceous marine birds, hesperornithiformes. I hope the readers of the blog will find this animation interesting and informative =)

Thank you for this awesome submission @pvtskwerl. Amazing work! Hesperornis and its relatives were incredibly adapted, almost fully marine birds and their anatomy was very remarkable.

Meet Patagotitan mayorum, the recently-named dinosaur that may have been the largest to ever have been unearthed (or at least, it’s in the largest-ever-discovered family.)

While this animal made headlines in 2014 after its discovery the previous year, it was just called “a Titanosaur,” referring to the taxonomic clade to which it belongs. Today, paleontologists published a paper on the sauropod, officially giving it the name “The Mayo family’s giant from Patagonia.”
